My Digital Perm Experience

Three weeks ago, I decided to be brave and went to Beauty Brick Salon for their famous digital perm. This was a risk on my part because I'm not very experimental when it comes to changing my look but I have to say, I'm happy with the result:) Anyway, I'm going to share with you now my experience. I went to the Salon, located in Makati at 8am. I was the first customer to arrive (obvious lang na excited). I was nervous, wondering if curly hair will suit me but the staff was kind enough to answer all my questions. For one, they assured me that it will give my hair volume which made me all the more decided to have the perm done, because all my life, I envied women with full bodied hair. At that moment, I pictured myself waking up every morning with effortless sexy waves. No more hair dryer, no more setting lotion to give my thin/limp tresses a life. Here's a picture of me when I still had straight hair :)

At around 8:15 am, Mr. Shin arrived and was ready to help me with my transformation. He studied the texture of my hair for some time and his interpreter told me that he will be giving me medium waves instead of the big natural curls I was asking because I had virgin hair. I agreed on it and they started to work on their magic. First he gave me a haircut to emphasize the curls then they applied three creams on my hair. After that my hair was hooked on a device and two hours after, I had instant Goldilocks curls. I was not really happy with the outcome at first but after three days, my hair was better. To prevent damage, they told me to come back after two weeks for haircolor and they gave me instructions on how to take care of my curls. I was also not allowed to shampoo for at least two days after the procedure. I spent Php3500 for the perm and Php500 for the styling product that day. Below, is a picture of me with my precious curls.

Two weeks after the perm, I decided to go to South Salon. I've been a South Salon baby for almost 3 years now and I only have praises for them. They offer quality service and the price is reasonable for the result you'll get. Menchie Vicente gave me another haircut to emphasize my curls. The result - no more frizzy ends and no more bushy hair :) . I swear she is the best in precision cutting. After that, she gave me the best highlights. She colored my hair with dark brown as base, then used mahogany and honey blonde for my highlights. Lastly, I was given a hair treatment to moisturize and soften my hair. I spent around Php9,000 all in all but I really loved the outcome. Here's the result:

How to take care of your hair after a Digital Perm:

THE GOLDEN RULE: DO NOT COMB YOUR HAIR WHEN DRY. YOU CAN ONLY COMB IT AFTER SHOWERING, WHEN HAIR IS STILL WET. - This will help retain your curls

* Make sure to condition your hair everyday to prevent frizz. Perms can make your hair really dry so, indulge yourself with moisturizing conditioners especially the organic ones. I use Human Heart Nature for my shampoo, conditioner and once a week intensive hair mask. So far, I am loving the result.

* Do not rub the towel on your hair to dry it, just squeeze the water out and wrap your hair in a towel to prevent frizz.

* Do not blow dry your hair. I was advised to let my hair dry naturally which means longer time for preparation and hair styling

* Remember to section your hair properly as advised by the hairstylist to achieve your desired look. For tighter curls, I section my hair into four, wind each section around my fingers then apply the product. For a natural wavy look, I section the hair into two and twist them around my fingers before I apply the product. If you want a beach-y, messy look, just allow your curls to dry naturally. I only do this when I'm home because I can't stand applying products on my hair during my rest days.

* Choose the best styling products. What works for me may not work for you but I'm going to share with you anyway what I'm using. When I have extra time to spare, I section my hair, twist it around my fingers and let it dry naturally. When it's 100% dry, I apply the Monoi Hard Wax with a bit of The Body Shop's Grapeseed Glossing Serum and apply it on my hair, especially concentrating on the ends for better hold. Make sure to crimp your hair to further define the curls. You can purchase the wax at Beauty Brick for Php500 and the glossing serum costs Php650.

When I'm in a rush, I apply the Monea Curl Defining Milk Lotion while my hair is still wet. Then I section, twist and crimp it until it dries. This product is realy affordable at Php98. I bought mine at Gaisano Supermarket in Alabang Town Center.

* Learn the habit of crimping your permed hair frequently to further define the curls/waves and to retain their shape. I'm so used to it now that when I'm bored, I find myself twisting and crimping my hair automatically hahaha. So, that's my digital perm story. Hope this helps. :)

  3. to anon: thank you for reading my blog dear :) my curls still look great...my tip is to get a perm at Beauty Brick and get a good haircut afterwards...or if you're from the South..go to South Salon they're also good with perms and precision cutting so you can have both done at the same time. Here's their FB page: http://www.facebook.com/SouthSalon - they already have a branch in Makati too, look for Menchie and she'll take care of you :) As for the price - perm is at Php3500 at Beauty Brick but for regular or comeback customers they will give it at Php3000. Where can I send you a pic? what's your email address? :)

  5. Hi Liz, I was just wondering if they also have cold perm in beauty brick, and which you think is better digi perm or cold perm? I've been thinking of changing my hairstyle.

  6. Hi Chayine, I really don't know if they offer cold perm services at Beauty Brick but you can call them at 408-3398/473-5108 to ask. :) As for your other question, I might be biased but I still prefer the digital perm because it lasts longer and the curls are more natural (think beach-y sexy waves) My friend opted to get the cold perm though because it was cheaper according to her :)

  12. hi janine...I'm sorry for the super late reply I was busy with work. Anyway, you can try Beauty Brick Salon...before I had my perm done, I read blogs so I can have the best options and BBrick was the top choice of most bloggers. I don't want to experiment din kasi when it comes to my hair kaya I make sure that I go to the best salons. Hair care is something that I don't scrimp on because it's our crowning glory :) How's your hair now?

  15. How I wish my experience was same as yours. Mine turned out bad. I availed the digiperm service of EdwinLisa Salon at their JP Rizal branch in Makati using the Metrodeal voucher. It was a total of almost 6hrs of procedure and it cost me 4k (incl. root color, treatment, half rebond) but the result was frustrating. I was told that I’m okay to leave even if my hair was still dripping wet and was applied with 10-12pumps of curling lotion. When my hair finally dried, it was so stiff and heavy. My hair looked so messy and frizzy. I don’t know what to do with my hair now, I even messaged the fb page of EdwinLisa but they did not reply. I had my digiperm at a Korean Salon last year but the result was beautiful and it even cost me less (ensogo voucher 1.8k only).
